1. About the Program

The Postgraduate Programme in Sanskrit is designed to provide an advanced understanding of Sanskrit language, literature, and philosophy. It aims to equip students with both traditional knowledge and modern research methodologies, enabling them to appreciate the depth and diversity of Sanskrit studies.

The curriculum covers a wide range of areas, including Vedic and classical literature, epics, poetics, grammar, philosophy, scientific texts, modern Sanskrit writings, and interdisciplinary applications. Students are encouraged to engage in critical analysis, comparative studies, and research that connect Sanskrit with contemporary disciplines such as linguistics, digital humanities, Ayurveda, Yoga, and cultural studies.

2.Programme Educational Objectives

• PEO-1:To impart comprehensive knowledge of Sanskrit language, literature, grammar, and philosophy—enabling students to understand and critically analyze classical and modern Sanskrit texts.
• PEO-2: To foster research aptitude, critical thinking, and interpretative skills through exposure to Vedic, philosophical, poetic, and scientific traditions preserved in Sanskrit.
• PEO-3: To prepare students for academic, cultural, and professional careers by promoting ethical values, linguistic proficiency, and interdisciplinary application of Sanskrit in fields like education, civil services, translation, and heritage conservation.

• i. Language Proficiency: Develop strong command over Sanskrit grammar, syntax, and semantics for reading, writing, and interpreting ancient and modern texts.
• ii. Literary Appreciation: Understand and critically evaluate classical Sanskrit literature, including poetry, prose, drama, and kāvyaśāstra (poetics).
• iii. Philosophical Insight: Acquire in-depth knowledge of Indian philosophical systems such as Vedānta, Sāṅkhya, Yoga, Nyāya, and Mīmāṁsā.
